What is Reiki?

Pronounced “Ray-Key,” it is a hands-on healing art that is passed on through a sacred initiation process and an attunement. In Japanese, Reiki means Universal Life Energy.

Why Reiki?

This is a question that everyone must answer him/herself, but consider:

•As spiritual beings having a human experience, touch is a central part of that experience.

•While many have been able to provide this type of healing through laying on of hands or Therapeutic Touch, Reiki attunement allows the individual to do this work without training or special spiritual endowment.  An honest desire is all that is necessary.  Reiki does the rest.

Even if one is not “called” to be a healer, the Reiki attunement benefits and enhances one’s life in many ways.  Think of a mother’s touch and then amplify it. What might be the associated benefits? Reiki may be applied to others as well as self, formally and informally.  Chiropractors, massage therapists, nurses and others have enhanced their work through Reiki.

How is Reiki learned?

There are many books available on Reiki as well as information on the Internet.  However, an attunement from a Reiki Master is necessary to facilitate the opening of the Reiki channel.  There are 3 levels of attunement.

What are the three levels?

•Reiki I -There is a four part attunement and a class which includes detailed background and instruction on how to begin using Reiki immediately.  Certification as a Reiki Practitioner is issued after completion.

•Reiki II - Additional attunement procedures are done along with teaching of the Reiki symbols.  Students are shown how to do distance healing (sending energy to someone rather than providing it through direct touch.) Reiki II Certification is issued.

•Reiki III - A higher level attunement, additional instruction and symbols are given as well as Certification as a Reiki Master (CRM)  This is also a part of becoming a teacher though teaching is not necessarily the goal.  Many achieve this level for the love of Reiki and of helping others.

How do I become a teacher?

To become a Certified Reiki Master Teacher (CRMT,) it is necessary to do an apprenticeship along with completing Reiki III class.

What is the time commitment?

At Sun Reiki, at least one full day is essential for each level. Two days of Reiki I are recommended for understanding the full history of Reiki and for in depth training in the practice of the art. This is a must if you wish to become a Reiki master.

What is the money exchange for being initiated and attuned?

Reiki I Intensive- $100.00

Reiki I - Full - $150.00

Reiki II - $200.00

Reiki III - $500.00
